Many media, including CNN, reported that the draft law on the legalization of Medical cannabis passed by Verkhovna Rada's Supreme Rada means that Medical cannabis will soon be used to treat injured Ukrainian soldiers and other seriously ill patients, alleviate their pain, and also be used to treat veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Ukrainian legislator David Arakhamia said on social media, "Just two years ago, a vote on similar initiatives unfortunately failed. Today, the war has determined new realities, and the Supreme Rada has responded appropriately to these realities with a majority of votes in favor

Myhalo Bakalyuk, a member of the 47th Brigade of Ukraine, was one of the soldiers who supported the legalization of Medical cannabis. He posted a written appeal on social media stating that he was injured by landmines on the front line, resulting in amputation of his left leg. He stated that taking painkillers can only alleviate physical pain, and these drugs also have adverse effects on his cardiovascular system, central nervous system, and internal organs.

He believes that compared with existing drugs, medical mahjong can significantly reduce pain and impact on the body.

Olga Stefanishina, a member of Verkhovna Rada Health Committee, said that Medical cannabis would also be used to treat veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. She stated that approximately 6 million people will benefit from this treatment.

Before the draft becomes law, another vote is required in Ukraine

According to the report, supporters said that if the draft law on the legalization of Medical cannabis could be passed, it might play a role in Ukraine's post-war recovery. Ukrainian officials stated that "Crimea is the warmest region in Ukraine, and once Ukraine regains control of the region, cannabis cultivation may become a part of the region's economic recovery.

As early as 2020, when Zelensky was still a presidential candidate, he proposed the legalization of Medical cannabis. According to the previous report of RIA Novosti, in June this year, President of Ukraine's President Zelensky called for the legalization of Medical cannabis when he made a speech in Ursulada, "All the best practices, the most effective policies and solutions in the world, no matter how difficult or unusual for us, must be implemented in Ukraine so that all our citizens do not have to endure the pressure and trauma caused by the war. In particular, we must finally legalize Medical cannabis and provide help to everyone in need.".

However, in view of the particularity of cannabis, even Medical cannabis is still opposed by many Ukrainians. Former Prime Minister Tymoshenko of Ukrainians publicly criticized the Government of Ukraine government for allowing cannabis cultivation on black land, claiming that Ukraine should grow food instead of cannabis. Obviously, Tymoshenko's measures did not work.

Westnet quoted Baugomeretz, a former lawmaker of Rada, as saying that the Government of Ukraine government wants the country to become a drug business center through the legalization of marijuana. Bogomolitz said, "In short, under the aegis of the legalization of Medical cannabis, they want Ukraine to become a new Colombia in the heart of Europe." Politicians believe that the proposal will allow a large number of cannabis cultivation and processing. The government needs this to drive billions of profitable businesses.
